There are several who have this same issue in my family alone. So, if anyone knows which files to remove from HKEY-LOCAL-MACHINE\SOFTWARE that resides in c:\Windows\system32 and take out C-Media Audio Drivers, I will appreciate feedback. ![]() I turned the on board sound card off in the BIOS. I thought I could resolve the cmicnfg.cpl file by installing a new Sound Blaster Card and Audigy software. Computer Hopes ch000208 doesn't address editing the registry to remove the files creating the problem. Unfortunately MS hasn't stepped up to the plate to acknowledge the corrupted file and offer a fix. What I have found out is the AC '97 RealTech driver was patched by MicroSoft in their SP2. No sound out of speakers - posted in Windows XP Home and Professional: Sorry to bring this up, but I have a problem with my sound system in my computer. I'm unable to change anything in My Computer > Sounds and Audio Devices - because it is "grayed out". Like most I have no sound because of the overrated C-MEDIA WDM Audio Driver. ![]() ![]() I'm sure most readers at some point will experience no sound once SP2 has been updated.
